ASV United Ltd, heatpump cleaning (Christchurch)

Post by jmitchell » January 15th, 2019, 12:54 pm

My grandmother lives at an old folks home and when I visited her on Monday she received a phone call from a heatpump company that wanted to charge her $135 for annual service even though service every 12 months is unnecessary.

I stayed in the guest room overnight and talked to the technician when he arrived and I told him to leave.

The company is ASV United and it appears that they call up numbers from the phone book and attempt to service your heatpump annually for $135, when Saxons charges a mere $99 for the same work (as far as I can tell) If your old folks are getting their heatpump serviced then make sure it isn't with ASV United.

My grandmother is RENTING a villa and if there was a fault with the heatpump then the property owner would get a company to come in and do the service. ASV United is generating a lot of money by cold-calling old people in retirement homes and having them pay for unnecessary jobs.

As reported by Stuff:

Nelson householders are being charged $135 to clean a heat pump – a job that suppliers say does not require a specialist and takes just minutes.

The cleaning service, which contacts customers through telemarketing, has prompted Richmond firm Best & West to publish a public notice advising heat pump owners that cleaning home heat pumps only requires cleaning the indoor filters every three months and keeping vegetation clear of the outdoor units.

Heat pump manufacturers give similar maintenance advice.

Best & West owner Terry Best said he believed specialist heat pump cleaners were taking advantage of older people who might not realise that it was a straightforward job.

As it turns out, there is a service sticker ON the side of the heatpump, if I had known then I could have cancelled the day prior. I learn something new every day.

I just open it up and hoover the air filters once a year.
